Community Approach Targeting Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma (CATCH): a new model of care for people living with chronic hepatitis B and C virus infection

People living with chronic hepatitis B and/or C are at risk of developing liver-related diseases including liver failure and cancer; appropriate management decreases these risks. This thesis presents a new model of care for patients in a community setting, aimed at providing easier access to complication risk assessment. Findings revealed high rates of patients at risk of complications but, concerningly, low rates of appropriate treatment and cancer surveillance. The study identifies key points of failure in the medical system and highlights that for provision of adequate care, changes to the existing methods of care are required, from assessment to management.
