This thesis resulted in the development of the first parenting intervention for parents caring for a suicidal adolescent in the context of depression or anxiety disorders. The intervention was a digital, coach-supported program; co-designed with people with lived experience. It aimed to empower parents to respond to their adolescent’s suicide risk, anxiety, and depression with more confidence. The pilot evaluation found it to be acceptable, feasible, and valid for parents to complete, and parents reported that after completing the intervention they felt more confident. The development of this parenting intervention program has filled a critical gap in research and clinical practice for adolescent suicide prevention.
