Circle/Sphere-Based Microstructure Reconstruction and Generation
This thesis is about the reconstruction and generation of microstructure virtual models with microstructure characteristics. The circles/spheres as one of the simplest geometries are utilized to achieve this objective. In the first part of this study, a method is proposed using circles and spheres to reconstruct three-dimensional (3D) microstructures of materials based on the information characterized from the two-dimensional (2D) images. In the second part of this study, a method is proposed to generate 2D/3D stochastic microstructures through the populating process of the circles/spheres. In the third part of this study, the circle/sphere populating method is further developed with the active control of overlapping, including prohibiting overlapping of circles/spheres. Controlling the sphere overlapping, the microstructure of powder beds in laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing can be generated.
