Chinese preschool teachers’ picturebook teaching practice: Adapting the Four Resources Model in the Chinese context

thesis
posted on 2024-05-12, 07:14 authored by HANYING MAO
Picturebooks are vital for children's learning. Chinese preschool teachers increasingly use them, but lack official guidelines. This thesis surveyed preschool teachers in Beijing, China, revealing challenges they encountered and strategies applied in picturebook teaching practice. The Four Resources Model was adapted to enhance Chinese preschool teachers' picturebook teaching practice. This adaptation introduced a new role - "text responder" to emphasis the importance of responding to the Chinese culture. This thesis provides valuable insights for preschool teachers, parents, and society, highlighting picturebooks' crucial role in child development and suggesting ways to improve teaching practices in Chinese preschools.
