Child Protection in Indonesia: Government Policy and Indonesian Muslim Concepts and Practices

This study explores the views of Muslim communities at various levels in Indonesian society in regard to child protection. It focuses especially on how the communities perceive children’s rights, as well as the child protection system, and the extent to which their perspectives might be different from the national and international regulations. The findings suggest that there is no significant indication that Muslim communities in Indonesia reject the notion that children have basic rights as independent individuals in Islam. Furthermore, this study suggests that among Muslims in Indonesia, poor acknowledgement of modern discourse on children’s rights and child protection remains prevalent.
