The work in this thesis is focused on the catalysis for the kinetically very slow [Fe(CN)6]3-/4--S2O32-/S4O62- redox reaction using TCNQFn (n = 0, 2, 4, TCNQ = 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane) derivatives and explored the chemistry of TCNQFn (n = 0, 2, 4) derivatives as oxidants for S2O32-/S4O62- redox reaction; and how the fluorine substituents affect these properties. New reactions were found between TCNQFn species and S2O32- not described previously. It was found that TCNQFn species were highly dependent on the extent of fluorination for the oxidation of S2O32-, and each showed distinctly different thermodynamics and kinetics.
