Ischemic stroke is caused by a blockage in the blood vessels of the brain. Current therapies can successfully restore blood flow, but they do not treat stroke-induced inflammation of the brain, also known as neuroinflammation. This thesis determined the role of the neurokinin-1 receptor in neuroinflammation, and investigated the effectiveness of a novel drug targeting this receptor to improve motor and sensory impairments associated with post-stroke neuroinflammation.
