Cathodic disbondment of fusion bonded medium density polyethlene : mechanisms and rate influencing factors

The overall aim of this research project was to recommend ways in which the cathodic disbandment (CD) performance of fusion bonded medium density polyethylene (FBPE), could be improved. The FBPE is applied to steel pipe manufactured in Australia for corrosion protection. Prior to this work, details of the disbandment mechanism/s and rate determining factors were obscure. It was necessary therefore to first determine the major mechanism/s, so that an appropriate experimental program could be developed to delineate the important rate influencing factors.[…]
