CO2 Capture with Extremophilic Microalgae- Isolation and Characterization of Novel Strains
thesis
posted on 2018-07-25, 04:50 authored by Prachi VarshneyThis thesis describes the isolation and physiological characterization of extremophilic microalgal strains that grow rapidly under high temperatures and elevated levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitric oxide (NO) that are present in industrial flue gases. These algae are capable of accumulating high levels of lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins, depending upon the strain and environmental conditions. Such characteristics make these strains promising candidates for CO2 sequestration from flue gases. The harvested biomass can be utilised as a source of protein for animal feeds, and for various other biotechnological purposes.
