This thesis examines how bystander intervention can promote workplace inclusion. Through case studies of two multinational organisations in Australia, the research reveals that for bystander intervention to lead to workplace inclusion, it requires specific conditions—namely perceptions of safety, support, and fairness. The findings demonstrate how leadership and policy-practice alignment shape these conditions, influencing whether intervention leads to workplace inclusion or potentially negative outcomes. This research advances theory by establishing bystander intervention as a coworker inclusion behaviour and provides organisations with an empirically-supported framework for developing more effective interventions beyond traditional training approaches.
