This thesis outlines research done to estimate the expertise of users on the World Wide Web (WWW). The estimated expertise can be used to infer the information quality of their user-generated content (UGC) on various platforms such as Collaborative Tagging (CT), Community Question-Answering (CQA) and Content Aggregation (CA) with social curation. With the information quality, we then improve content management and various other information retrieval tasks.
