There are many steps involved in the molecular cascade that causes the clinical symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease, and identifying which step to try to block is complex. Recently, a critical step in the process was identified, which is hyper-activation of the immune cells (microglia) in our brain. My research efforts include delivery of a novel peptide toxin (HsTX1) derived from a scorpion to the brain in order to specifically block this step and stop the disease.
