Excess body weight has been extensively associated with a higher risk of adverse health outcomes and mortality. My PhD examined the association of weight status and weight change with the risk of mortality in community-dwelling older adults. The results of my thesis found that weight change and weight status are important predictors of mortality risk in older adults. These findings underscore the importance of healthcare providers monitoring weight in older adults to detect weight loss in its early stages, enabling more effective interventions aimed at maintaining a stable weight and reducing the risk of premature mortality.
