Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is associated with dementia. High blood pressure (BP) and stiffening of blood vessels might explain this association. I examined the role of BP and blood vessel stiffness on brain health in T2D in two separate samples. I found that T2D was associated with higher BP during sleep and this affected the cognition of those with T2D. I also found that in those with T2D, high BP and blood vessel stiffness were associated with subtle damage to the brain. These results suggest that BP and blood vessel health might be important in T2D-related dementia
