Bioprinted human cardiac constructs: a step towards cardiac regeneration utilising shear-thinning hydrogels

thesis
posted on 2021-03-07, 06:07 authored by MARIA DEL ROCIO GARCIA CRUZ
The main goal of this project was to create a 3D bioprinted cardiac scaffold, achieved by the development of a hydrogel with improved printability and biological functionality, and combining it with a clinically-relevant human cardiac progenitor cell population, in order to create functional cardiac tissue. The data obtained also provide important insights into the factors which are critical for future success in cardiac bioprinting. Thus, this work points towards new possibilities for cardiac tissue engineering, opening the door for exiting future developments in translational bioprinted cardiac constructs, and taking a steps towards future cardiac regeneration.
