Biopriming Seeds to Improve Tolerance Against Biotic and Abiotic Stresses

thesis
posted on 2022-03-14, 01:47 authored by JIA MAY CHIN
The main idea of this thesis is to develop bioformulation for seed biopriming and utilize it as a strategy to enhance the tolerance of seeds under various stress. Beneficial microbes are bioprimed and coated onto seeds to manage the diseases caused by different pathogens. The presence of these beneficial microbes could also protect seeds from metal and salt toxicity in the soil environment. The pot studies showed that the bioprimed seeds could germinate well and this could benefit the crop yield under stress. Overall, this is a promising green approach in alleviating food insecurity and encouraging sustainability of agroecosystem.
