This thesis examines how cell membranes interact with specialised proteins and carbon nanomaterials. The two main goals of the thesis are i) to understand folding of virulence factors of key bacterial proteins to understand their role in disease states, and ii) to explore the potential toxicity of carbon nanomaterials in designing biomedical devices using graphene.
