Biomechanical insights into the repair of mandibular angle fracture

The lower jaw (mandible) is a commonly fractured facial bone, yet there has been global ambiguity on the predominate cause, location and treatment of jaw fracture. Additionally there has been a lack of consensus amongst clinicians on the best treatment technique for repair of a common subtype - fracture of the mandibular angle. By conducting a global systematic review on mandible fracture epidemiology (cause, anatomical subtypes, treatment, complications) and by conducting extensive biomechanical tests (finite element analysis) this dissertation provides novel insights into the epidemiology and treatment of mandibular angle fracture that can be used to guide prevention and treatment outcomes.
