Our genomes contain a complete set of blueprints that instruct how each and every part of us is made. However, while the genome stores all this information, an additional level of management is required to ensure specific information is used at the correct time. These controlling or “epigenetic” factors include a protein called MeCP2. This thesis used various techniques to explore and gain greater understanding of MeCP2 function in the brain. Finally, we find new interactions of MeCP2 and highlight additional mechanisms of genome control that may be relevant to MeCP2 and its related neurological conditions.
