This study investigates the medicinal properties of two tropical trees, Macaranga bancana and Macaranga tanarius, commonly used in Malaysian and Thai traditional medicine. Testing their methanolic extracts revealed that M. tanarius exhibits potent antioxidant effects, combating free radicals and oxidative stress, while M. bancana shows promise in preventing harmful reactive oxygen species formation. M. tanarius also demonstrates antimicrobial potential against certain Gram-positive bacteria. Furthermore, the study identified new chemical compounds in both trees, providing valuable insights into their chemical makeup for the first time. Overall, this research highlights the therapeutic potential of these tropical trees in natural medicine.
