Sexual health is an important component that is essential to one’s overall well-being and quality of life. This thesis examined the sexual functioning of young adults in relation to global self-esteem. While global self-esteem has been typically studied as a unidimensional construct, this thesis utilised a bidimensional framework of global self-esteem that comprises of the degree to which people accept themselves as social beings, and how capable they perceive themselves to be in achieving intended outcomes. A nuanced framework of global self-esteem and sexual function was found to operate through sexual motivations and sexual assertiveness.
