The research aims to understand the hidden basement geology of the North Australian Craton’s interior and its interaction with overlying basin structures. The study identifies five distinct crustal elements separated by generally northwest-oriented boundaries using gravity, magnetics, seismic, isotopic, geochronological, and geochemical datasets. The identified crustal elements are Pine Creek, Arnhem, North Tennant Creek, Tennant Creek and Tanami-Altjawarra domains. The research reveals the composite nature of the craton’s interior, characterised by varying gravity and magnetic lineament trends. The study improved our understanding of the craton’s internal architecture and its impact on basin development.
