This thesis examines the experimental evolution of the bacteriophage in simple microbial communities. It identifies that a microbial community drives phage evolution by selecting broad host range phages over single host specialists. Also, diversity in the microbial community potentially suppresses the evolution of phage resistance. The outcomes of this thesis can have far-reaching implications on strategies to improve phage therapy.
