Attention and white matter micro- and macro-structure in children exposed to common patterns of alcohol consumption during pregnancy

Attention deficits are common among children with heavy prenatal alcohol exposure, but little is known about the developmental consequences of lower and more common alcohol consumption patterns during pregnancy. This thesis identifies weak evidence that low-moderate alcohol exposure in utero affects attention and brain structure. Nevertheless, these results characterise low-moderate prenatal alcohol exposure as a risk factor for development. Ultimately, avoidance of this risk is preferable even when the potential for harm is small.
