My work examines the structure of the Australian protected areas network on land, assessing whether it is likely to achieve its goal of supporting a variety of biodiversity for the long-term. Specifically, I look at how well the protected areas overlap with the location of a range of biodiversity features and how well they may perform in conserving the biodiversity over the long-term. I also assess whether connectedness between protected areas supports long-term outcomes for species conservation.
