In this thesis, various shapes and sizes of polydopamine nanoparticles including cup/bowl-shaped mesoporous and spherical particles have been synthesized with an aim to obtain efficient drug nanocarriers to overcome the current limitations of nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems. Through these studies, we have explored the potential of cup/bowl-shaped polydopamine mesoporous nanoparticles not only as therapeutic agents for combined chemo- and photothermal therapy for cancer treatment but also as a potent and highly controllable near-infrared-triggered drug delivery system. This study contributes new insight into the design and development of efficient and biocompatible drug nanocarriers.
