This thesis reports on a study of growth determination in the Australian theraphosid Selenocosmia stirlingi Hogg. In particular, the effects of food availability, temperature and photoperiod on growth and development were assessed by measuring changes in size and weight.
Laboratory and field experiments were performed with juvenile spiders, primarily from installs III to V.
The general biology of the spiders was examined in the Laboratory, and field studies were undertaken to provide information on the temperature and rainfall at the field site and on spider activity patterns.
