This thesis examines ways that gravitational waves might allow us to peer into the early universe, giving access to higher energy phenomena than we may ever reach on Earth. It looks at how the signatures of new forces and particles might be imprinted in observable gravitational wave signals, allowing us to gain a deeper understanding of nature.
