The thesis develops and applies a new systematic approach to the archaeological recording of rock art. Using the Arnhem Land rock art site of Nawarla Gabarnmang, which has over 1400 images and a 50,000 year cultural history, the study combined DStretch enhancement, Harris Matrices and the Morellian Method to successfully identify and document the individual images to establish the spatial and temporal structure of the site’s art history.
