Applying Different Therapeutic Modalities to Support Parents with Mental Health Challenges: Experiences of Australian Therapists who use Schema Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Narrative Therapy
Parents make up a significant portion of mental health service users and often face unique challenges balancing their mental health needs with parenting. There is limited research on which therapies best support parents with mental health challenges. This PhD project explored the experiences of Australian therapists using three therapeutic approaches—schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and narrative therapy—to better understand what works in helping parents with mental health challenges. The findings aim to improve therapeutic support for both parents and their families.
