The Pressuremeter Test (PMT) is a versatile in-situ geotechnical field investigation method, but its application in open-pit mining may be challenged by two issues: the in-situ horizontal stress anisotropy and the tensile strength of the rock mass. This thesis develops two laboratory tests to understand the impacts of the issues and performs in-situ PMT in Victorian brown coal open-pit mine.
