Inorganic perovskite nanocrystals which have lucrative optical and electronic properties have been utilised for various optoelectronic devices. However, beyond those applications, the use of inorganic perovskite nanocrystals has been quite limited. Therefore, this thesis has departed from the status quo to consider the potential use of inorganic perovskite nanocrystals as photoluminescence-based chemical sensors. By harnessing the sensitivity of the structural and/or optical properties of inorganic perovskite nanocrystals to specific analytes in solution, facile transduction mechanisms involving monitoring of photoluminescence changes result. This provides a great foundation from which to develop portable photoluminescence-based chemical sensors in the future.
