The introduction of LED lighting offers a new way of meeting the demand for an accurate, reliable and economical indoor positioning system (IPS); this emerging technology is called visible light positioning (VLP). In VLP, LED luminaires, in addition to providing indoor illumination, transmit signals and act as beacons in an IPS. At the VLP receiver, the signals are detected, decoded and used in positioning algorithms. The research presented in this thesis is focused on angle of arrival techniques for VLP including the design, analysis and verification of a novel angular diversity receiver.
