Embarking on a comprehensive journey, the research identified existing gaps in pleural decompression methods, adopting a multidisciplinary approach that integrated mechanical engineering, material science, and clinical medicine insights. This led to the development of two iterations of the SaPD device: the 2020 and 2022 models, engineered to enable quick, safe, and efficient pleural decompression with minimal operator dependency, potentially revolutionising emergency tension pneumothorax management.
