This project investigated the production of new sponge-like materials, constructed from carefully designed parts that self-assemble to form large infinite networks. These materials are designed to enhance the capture and storage of CO2 produced from the burning of fossil fuels. The solid state structures were analysed using the Australian Synchrotron, in order to understand the size and shape of the internal cavities. The materials produced during this project provide a new approach to capturing CO2 under real world conditions.
