The facial skeleton has an important role in facial aesthetics and their role has only recently been appreciated. It as previously been suggested that resorption occurs around the orbital bones and maxilla. This study utilised 400 patient from birth to 100 years of age to comprehensively assess these changes through an improved study design. It was shown there is no appreciable change in the dimensions of the orbit. The maxilla underwent remodelling and inward bowing. This has a significant influence on the projection of the overlying soft tissues. Correction of these changes should be the focus of the surgeon when wishing to optimise the aesthetic profile in the region.
