The high data demands of visible light communication (VLC) applications require transmitters with a high modulation bandwidth. Off-the-shelf LEDs have a limited bandwidth of 20 MHz, necessitating the development of micro-LEDs. This thesis identifies the crystal orientations in GaN micro-LED structures that offer the highest modulation bandwidth. The issue of low output power in micro-LEDs has been addressed by proposing optimized nano-sized hexagonal facet patterning (NSHFP) on the n-semiconductor bottom surfaces of the micro-LED, which enhances the output power by 75%. The proposed micro-LED chip demonstrates high-speed modulation capabilities while maintaining improved output power. Additionally, a single-stage YS-2 fiber-based fluorescent antenna is proposed to improve the field of view, coverage, and data rate performance of VLC.
