Advanced characterisation of bituminous emulsion treated unsealed road materials for improved dust suppression and mechanical performance

thesis
posted on 2023-10-30, 22:48 authored by SENARATHNA ASANKA SANJEEWA KUMARA DE SILVA
This thesis proposes a transformative approach for managing dust-related challenges on Australia's extensive unsealed road network. Employing advanced machine learning, the research accurately estimates dust emissions, replacing costly monitoring methods. Field tests demonstrate reduced dust and improved road safety. Application of bitumen emulsion enhances road stability, benefiting travellers and freight operators. The significance lies in optimized maintenance, cost savings, and longer-lasting infrastructure, contributing to a resilient and sustainable transportation network. Safer driving conditions and improved air quality are additional benefits. This innovative approach revolutionizes unsealed road management, benefiting all stakeholders involved in transportation.
