Bridge collapse accidents have occurred frequently in recent years due to traffic overload, material degradation and natural disasters. The aim of this PhD study is to develop advanced sensing technologies for efficient data collection and rapid dynamic identification of bridges. In this thesis, the feasibility of three kinds of sensing technologies including a soft robotic gripper for multipurpose robotics, energy harvester for wireless sensors and noncontact vision sensor for structural health monitoring was comprehensively investigated.
