Non-aqueous redox flow batteriy is a type of energy storage system. It recently has been recognized as the next generation of scalable energy storage system that may be applied for renewable resources. Different types of materials have been investigated as redox couples for the electrolyte, among them, metal complexes with non-innocent ligands show great potential. Therefore, in this thesis the Fe (II) tris 2,2’-bipyridine complex, a well-known metal complex whose potential as a redox couple has been previously studied, is adopted for deeper study, investigating the influence of structure, substituents and anions on the electrochemical properties and solubility of the complexes.
