Addressing Sexuality after TBI

thesis
posted on 2024-11-15, 02:39 authored by Jill Hong Ann Hwang
Approximately half of individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI) experience changes in their sexual functioning and wellbeing, or sexuality. However, sexuality is rarely discussed, leaving survivors to manage these challenges on their own. In this thesis, the lived experiences of post-TBI sexuality were gathered through interviews with survivors, solutions were co-designed with clinicians at a TBI rehabilitation unit, and the effects and process of implementing these solutions were evaluated. The findings demonstrate that dedicated co-design and implementation efforts can lead to improvements in sexuality support, representing an important step in addressing sexuality as an integral aspect of TBI rehabilitation.
