Action research is relatively new for teachers in Bhutan. This study explores how Bhutanese secondary science teachers conduct action research and the factors influencing this process. The findings show that the teachers used a flexible action research process, which was constrained and enabled by several factors related to the teachers and conditions within and outside school. These factors were amplified by the Bhutanese cultural values of Driglam-Namzha, Tha-Dam-Tshig, and Lhachoe-Gewa-Chu. The study proposes a culturally relevant model for Bhutanese teachers, the Sheyrig Action Research (SAR) model. The study highlights the importance of including cultural factors in action research models.
