In cells exposed to interferons (IFNs), a large number of specific cellular genes, known as IFN stimulated genes (ISGs), are transcriptionally activated to elicit the myriad of biological responses to IFNs, including antiviral, antiproliferative, differentiative and immunomodulatory effects.
