Studies have shown that brief interventions delivered using web and mobile phone platforms can be effective for reducing alcohol consumption in young people. Mobile phones in particular offer opportunities to collect data and deliver interventions anywhere and anytime, due to their high usage and portability. This thesis addresses a gap in this emerging area of research, by contributing to the literature on mobile phone-delivered, real-time alcohol intervention. An improved understanding of the feasibility, acceptability, implementation and efficacy of an alcohol intervention will assist in informing future developments in this field. This thesis further elucidates barriers to translation from research to practice for mHealth and social media interventions.
