A closer look at dissolution and passivity of Cr and Cr-containing alloys

thesis
posted on 2022-04-19, 04:26 authored by SANJAY CHOUDHARY
Several corrosion resistant alloys, with chromium (Cr) as a key functional alloying element, are now commodity metallic materials presently being used in a myriad of applications. Yet, several fundamental aspects of so-called ‘Cr-based passivity’ are not fully understood due to a lack of element-resolved information. This thesis advances our knowledge of the underlying mechanisms and the associated rate controlling factors of passivity in Cr and Cr-containing alloys. The findings herein will guide design of new corrosion resistant alloys for application in harsh corrosive environments and for emerging technologies
