Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication characterised by elevated blood pressure after 20 weeks of gestation accompanied by impairment to other organs such as kidneys and liver. It is a progressive disease and if left untreated may lead to catastrophic outcomes to both the mother and baby including induced preterm birth. The only definitive treatment is delivery regardless of the age of the pregnancy. Hence, there is an urgent need to find a more effective treatment to delay the disease progress in order to prolong the pregnancy. The aim of this project is to unfold the potentials of hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug in the treatment of preeclampsia.
