Jung emphasised the importance of understanding evil as be believed that people are misled by media representations of evil, hence the shadow. The shadow are the evil characteristics of a person and is projected to avoid judgement, however, must be accepted to develop the Self or wholeness of being. The purpose of this study is to explore archetypal evil in a contemporary series, Vikings. Using an interpretive approach, a content analysis and participant interviews were conducted. Results found that evil is ambiguous due to variations of representations of archetypal evil however, arguably, the core meaning of evil/ shadow is resolute.
