This thesis explores the best uses of 3D printing as a new format for accessibility to graphics for people who are blind or have low vision in education and for orientation and mobility training. A multimethodology, collaborative approach was employed and shared. This work confirmed the value of 3D printing, identified the most appropriate uses and gaps for future development, and developed evidence-based guidelines for the design of accessible 3D printed models. Most importantly, the work was instrumental in the adoption of 3D printing by accessibility providers, education departments and orientation and mobility specialists throughout Australia and New Zealand.
