SGBV & Dynamics of Conflict Dataset Codebook

Codebook for the SGBV & Dynamics of Conflict Dataset.

The codebook explains the terms and methodological criteria used to guide the data collection of SGBV reports for each conflict case. It was developed using the detailed Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court definition of SGBV, which enables actors to document and report SGBV as crimes of international concern.

Following the rules set out in the codebook, the dataset was compiled to observe all possible events reported as ‘SGBV’ during the period of study. Thus, it provides a grounded understanding of conflict-related sexual and gender-based violence, both validating and potentially extending the international definition.
