Restricted focus viewer (RFV) version 2.0 user's manual

The Restricted Focus Viewer (RFV) is a computer based tool for tracking visual attention. It has been developed as an alternative to eye-tracking equipment. The RFV uses image blurring to restrict how much of a stimulus can be clearly seen, allowing only a small region of focus to be viewed. This focus region can be moved over different parts of a stimulus using a computer mouse. The RFV is cheap, non-instrusive, does not require calibration and provides accurate data about which region of a stimulus is being focused upon. This report describes the RFV, and demonstrates how the program is used. System requirements, parameter settings and data output are all discussed, as is the companion Replayer program which is used to analyse RFV data.
